Splash PR’s Social Value Package is for companies pitching for major public sector projects

Social Value Package

Splash PR’s Social Value Package will enable companies to demonstrate how they help protect the planet, support the local economy and champion inclusivity.

The Splash PR Social Value Package includes:

•  Researching and writing news stories and case studies for the company’s website,

•  Writing social media posts about its activities,

•  Creating e-newsletters spreading news about how the company is helping the environment and local community,

•  Writing submissions for construction awards which celebrate environmental, inclusivity and community successes and

•  Writing press releases for the construction trade press and local newspapers and news websites.

Stories could show how, for example, a company has created wildlife corridors on a housing development, held tree planting events for local schoolchildren, created apprenticeships at a nearby college, invested in a new community centre, contributed to a local charity and recruited staff from the region.

With social value forming at least ten per cent of the weighting given to construction companies tendering for major public sector projects, businesses are having to focus on demonstrating the positive benefits they offer to society to be in with a chance of winning hefty contracts.

The supply chain for the Sizewell C project in Suffolk, for example, has announced that social value will form a key element of the selection criteria for companies putting in tenders for the £4.4 billion of opportunities open to companies in the East of England. This includes a focus on equality, diversity and inclusion.

The term social value shares common ground with ESG (environmental, social and governance), although while social value reflects the positive input a company has on society, ESG tends to focus on countering a company’s negative impact.

Social value covers five main areas:

•      Employment - using local skills and creating jobs and apprenticeships for the community

•      Growth – investing in the local economy

•      Social - nurturing healthier, safer, more resilient communities

•      Environment - providing clean, green spaces, promoting sustainable procurement, reducing waste, minimising transportation, reducing carbon emissions, using water sustainably, protecting the planet

•      Innovation - promoting new ideas and social innovation
